Healthy Eating Guidelines:
Eating Plans, Recipes and Tips

Following healthy eating guidelines is not as difficult as it may seem. We are bombarded daily with new information as to what is healthy and what isn't, but the key to good health really boils down to a few simple principles. Eat a wide variety of whole foods in moderation, get a little exercise on a regular basis, and live your life as fully as possible. Simple!

The typical western diet has proven to be the cause of numerous diseases, the rates of which have risen dramatically over the past 50 years. Rates of obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease have skyrocketed, putting a strain on everyone's resources, and leading to the need for a new food pyramid. The nutritional value of most food in the supermarket is questionable, and even products that are labeled "low fat" and "heart healthy" are usually nutritionally poor substitutes for real, unprocessed food.

You may be asking "Why is nutrition important?" The nutrients in what you eat can help you avoid contracting a host of chronic illnesses and may reduce your need for prescription drugs.

Sticking to healthy eating guidelines also naturally leads to healthy weight loss. While everyone would like the secret to quick weight loss, the truth is that there is no secret. Studies have shown that fad diets and quick weight loss programs are neither healthy nor sustainable in the long run. The healthiest way to lose weight is by following a healthy diet plan, and gradually you will find the pounds melting off.

Whether you are looking to lose weight or just feel healthier, eating right doesn’t have to mean eating tasteless, boring food. I am the greatest hedonist I know, and just the thought of a rice cake makes me cringe. It’s possible to create delicious, satisfying meals that will impress even your pickiest family members.
